Paul Smith: Gentleman Designer

Living in Nottingham it only seemed right to learn more about Paul Smith, as it is the quirky British designer's hometown. In a recent lecture we watched Paul Smith: Gentleman Designer (Stéphane Carrell, 2012).

The documentary is inspiring and intimate, and shows Smith as a friendly, funny and down to earth businessman. We see him in and around London and follow him on his travels to Tokyo where his business is thriving.

"You can find inspiration in anything. And if you can't, look again."

Paul Smith is known for his very British menswear clothing and his signature multi-coloured stripes, and his sales tops the likes of Chanel and Apple. He is a kind-hearted, warm and modest man who's creative flair is seen throughout his communication.

To sum him up in three words? British. Quirky. Modest.
